Southeast uses 23-0 3rd quarter run to put away Field 57-28

PALMYRA, OH- It was a showdown of a pair of Portage County squads Friday night in Palmyra as the Southeast Pirates hosted the Field Falcons in their season opener. The Pirates were looking to start the season on a positive note while the Falcons were trying to bounce back from a season opening loss to Woodridge. Southeast used a huge 3rd quarter to run past Field 57-28.

Field would open the game with a pair of free throw makes by Paxson Silveus for the first points of the game. That 2-0 lead would be their only lead of the game. Southeast scored the next seven straight capped off by a Bradley Dillon and-one conversion to jump up 7-2.

It was back and forth to close out the 1st as the Pirates held a 12-9 lead after one.

Field hung tight through the first half of quarter two with Mason Fultz converting a couple tough jumpers inside. Cohen Richardson would then come alive for the Pirates igniting a 12-2 run with an and-one conversion to end the half. Richardson was responsible for 10 of the 12 points pushing their lead to 28-15 at the break.

The 3rd quarter was a thing of beauty for Southeast basketball on both sides of the ball. Field would get a free throw split by Jackson Berlin to open the 3rd before the roof caved in on them. The Pirates would turn up the heat on both ends of the floor going on a 23-0 run top open up a 51-16 lead.

Richardson & Dillon combined for 13 points during the run. Devyn Miller also contributed two buckets at the rim and some aggressive play on the defensive end and on the boards.

A Tristan Zeman three for Field finally broke the run late in the 3rd. Southeast took a commanding 53-19 lead into the final quarter.

Southeast was able to get some underclassmen into the game in the 4th giving them some valuable varsity playing time. Field would outscore them 9-4 for the final score of 57-28.

Cohen Richardson led the way for the Pirates with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Bradley Dillon chipped in with 11 points. Devyn Miller just missed a double/double with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Joey Conroy led the Falcons with 9 points.

Southeast will look to keep it rolling on 12/9 when they travel to Jackson-Milton while the Falcons look for their first win 12/6 at Norton.
