Lady Falcons Fall to Blue Devils 39-37

Brimfield, OH- The youthful Falcons of Field welcomed the Independence Blue Devils to town for a pre-Thanksgiving showdown on the hardwood. After graduating 9 players from last season’s squad, coach John Misenko leads a squad that features only 2 seniors and no juniors. With a young team comes growing pains, and Tuesday night unfortunately brought about a lot of learning opportunities.

Through much of the first half, the game was back and forth, with Field holding the advantage on the scoreboard at the end of the 1st quarter by a 7-6 advantage and 18-12 at the midway point.

It was the 3rd quarter where the Falcons appeared to find their groove for the night, netting 14 in the frame to carry a 32-22 advantage heading into the final 8 minutes of play. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils didn’t come to Brimfield to roll over and head back to Cuyahoga County without a fight. The Blue Devils opened the quarter on an 11-0 run, aided by some untimely turnovers and forced shots by the hosts.

‍ ‍ Morgan Stoicoiu sinks one of her 3 triples on the evening during the 3rd quarter.

For the quarter, the Blue Devils (1-0) outscored the Falcons 17-5, with all 5 Falcon points coming by the hand of Sophomore Audrey Richmond who ended the night with 8 points. The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Senior Emily Gibbons who scored 18 on the evening including 9 in the final stanza. Sophomore Lila Manfredonia added 13 for the victors, with 7 coming in the 4th. The Falcons (2-1) were paced by Senior Guard Morgan Stoicoiu who ended the night with 12 points, including three makes from beyond the arc. The Falcons return to action on Tuesday evening as they welcome MAC foe Woodridge to town to open conference play.
