Roosevelt falls to Revere 28-16
KENT, OH- Roosevelt Stadium in Kent was the scene for a Suburban League matchup between the host Roosevelt Rough Riders and the Revere Minutemen. Roosevelt came in at 2-1 already equaling their win total from the previous season. The Minutemen were looking to stay undefeated. It was a story of missed scoring opportunities for the Rough Riders in the 2nd half as they fell to Revere 28-16.
Roosevelt would receive first possession and be forced to punt after three runs came up short of a first down. They punted the ball away to Revere who also went three and out after a 10-yard holding penalty set them back and the Rough Rider defense held firm.

Roosevelt would draw first blood on their second possession. Two straight completions by Rough Riders quarterback Gavin Peeps started the drive. It looked like things were coming to a halt after an illegal block penalty and a 9-yard loss on a sack put them in a 3rd and 22 situation. Peeps was able to scramble away from a potential second straight sack and take off down the Revere sideline to paydirt from 48 yards out. Sam Snellenberger converted the PAT for a 7-0 Roosevelt lead with 6:45 to play in the first quarter.

Revere would answer back quickly in four plays with Johlil Blanchard scampering in from 29 yards out for their first touchdown. After the PAT conversion we were all tied up at 7-7 with 5:13 to play first quarter.
The Rough Riders were moving the ball on their next possession with Peeps pass completion of 43 yards to Justin Green into Revere territory. Unfortunately for Roosevelt, they would suffer a big 10-yard loss due to a sack on 3rd and 4 and would be forced to punt.
Revere would then put together a 12 play, 75 yard drive that carried over into the second quarter. It was capped off by a James Perry 2-yard touchdown run. The PAT conversion gave Revere it’s first lead at 14-7 with 7:43 to play first half.
Roosevelt would get a nice kick return by Teddy Maccarone to set them up at the 44-yard line. a 7-play drive aided by a Minutemen 15-yard personal foul penalty was capped off by a Pees 2-yard touchdown run. The Snellenberger PAT tied it up at 14-14 with 2:50 to play in the half.

The Rough Riders defense would then come up big as Tyler Ellington picked off a pass by Revere quarterback Chase Clifford setting the Rough Riders with a scoring opportunity before the half. They would move the ball down to the Minutemen 18-yard line before having to settle for a field goal attempt. Snellenberger’s 28-yard attempt was blocked and we went into halftime knotted at 14-14.

Revere would start the third quarter with the ball as they wasted no time getting into the end zone. Five straight Blanchard runs set them at the Roosevelt 26-yard line. From there Clifford found Harrison Drvenkar from 26-yards out for the touchdown. The PAT was missed making it a 20-14 Revere lead.
Roosevelt looked answer the punch in the mouth by the Minutemen to begin the second half. Ke’Shan Talbert busted off a 27-yard run. Two plays later a pass interference penalty set them up at the Revere 17-yard line. Three straight runs would bring up a 1st and goal at the 3-yard line. Peeps ran a keeper but was stopped short at the 1-yard line. On 2nd down Peeps threw and incomplete screen pass that was very close to being a backwards pass fumble. Talbert was then stuffed at the goal line on 3rd down. On 4th and 1 from the 1-yard line, Peeps was sacked for an 11-yard loss. Four straight opportunities inside the 3-yard line were unsuccessful and the ball was turned back over to Revere.
The Roosevelt defense would step up and force the Minutemen to punt it back to them with 1:06 to play in the third. They would move into Minutemen territory after a Peeps 47-yard completion to Ellington. Roosevelt would miss on two straight passes near the end zone and turn the ball back over to Revere.
This time the Minutemen would make them pay going 69 yards in 11 plays and chewing up six minutes of clock in the process. Perry would score from 3-yards out. A successful 2-point conversion made it a 28-14 Revere lead with 4:07 to play.
Roosevelt would again move into Revere territory, this time via a 42-yard pass play from Peeps to Green. Unfortunately for them they would stall at the 8-yard line following three straight incompletions. Revere would end up taking a safety while running the clock down to one second making the final margin 28-16.
Gavin Peeps led the way for the Rough Riders going 13/27 for 214 yards passing along with 86 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ke’Shan Talbert chipped in 75 yards on the ground.
Roosevelt will look to bounce back next week vs Cuyahoga Falls.
