Streetsboro blows past Ravens 49-3 at Ravenna
RAVENNA, OH- A pair of Metro Athletic Conference foes met up at Portage Community Bank Stadium Friday night for week 8 of the high school football season as the Ravenna Ravens hosted the Streetsboro Rockets. The Rockets came into this one as the current 7th seed in Division 4 / Region 13 looking to enhance their chances of a first round home playoff game. Ravenna was trying for their second straight win after shutting out Springfield last week. Streetsboro would score early and often on their way to a 49-3 win.
The Ravens would receive the ball first to begin this one. On the first play from scrimmage Ravenna quarterback CJ Ross was picked off by the Rockets Marcus Council giving the ball to the Rockets at their own 34-yard line. The Ravens defense would come up big stopping them on a 4th & 3 and forcing a turnover on downs. Ravenna was unable to capitalize and punted the ball away after a three and out.
The Rockets would get on the board first on their next drive on a short field as they went 35 yards in five plays capped off by a Janiere Cook 15-yard touchdown run. The PAT made it a 7-0 Rockets lead.

The Rockets would then convert a successful onside kick on the ensuing kickoff taking over at the Ravens 40-yard line. It was a long 11 play drive that ended with Ayden Knuebel taking a 4-yard plunge into the endzone for another 1st quarter score. The PAT put Streetsboro up 14-0 with 1:43 to play in the 1st quarter.

The Rockets defense would force a quick Ravens three and out punt before scoring their second touchdown in less than two minutes as Colton Cox hit Kyle Giacomo on a 47-yard scoring strike. The PAT made it 21-0 Rockets. This would be our score after one quarter.
Ravenna would finally pickup their first 1st down of the game on their next possession, but things stalled after a bad snap resulted in 17-yard loss. They would be forced to punt the ball away once again. The Rockets continued the first half onslaught as Cox and Giacomo hooked up again this time from 13-yards out for another score. The PAT put the Rockets up 28-0 with 8:55 to play in the half.

The Ravens would finally generate some offense on their next drive. They took the ball all the way down to the the Rockets 4-yard line after a 15-yard Asygh Gaines run and 23-yard Mark Miller run set them up. Streetsboro would hold them on three straight plays from the 4-yard line and force a 20-yard field goal attempt. Jose Carpenter would line drive it through the uprights cutting the Rockets lead to 28-3 with 5:09 to play 1st half.

A familiar duo would strike again for the Rockets on their next drive. Cox would hit Giacomo over the middle for a 46-yard scoring strike, their third scoring connection of the game. Another Logan Sadowski PAT made it a 35-3 game with just over five minutes to play in the 1st half.

Ravenna would move the ball into Rockets territory again, but a 5-yard loss and two straight incompletions turned the ball over on downs to the Rockets. The half would end on two straight defensive plays by Ravens defensive lineman Bradley Davis who sacked Cox and then picked him off nearly returning it for a touchdown to end the half with the Rockets leading 35-3.

Streetsboro would pick up right where they left off to open the 2nd half. Following a Cox completion to a diving Manny Gibson for 24 yards, two plays later Marcus Council would run it in from 30 yards out. Sadowski’s PAT made it a 42-3 game.

It was Council striking again as he picked off Ross for the second time. The offense he would snag his 2nd touchdown of the game on a 20-yard run to the endzone with 4:30 to play. This would be the final margin as Streetsboro ran away with a 49-3 win!
Kyle Giacomo earned R&S Landscaping & Excavating Player of the Game for his 3 receptions for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns. Marcus Council scored a pair of rushing touchdowns with 100 yards on the ground and a pair of interceptions on defense.
The Rockets will host Field next Friday while the Ravens will host Coventry.
