Streetsboro wins 4th straight after their 41-24 win at Roosevelt
KENT, OH- Week 5 of Friday Night Light’s took us to Roosevelt Stadium for a Metro Athletic Conference and Portage County matchup between the Roosevelt Rough Riders and Streetsboro Rockets. The teams met last season with the Rockets coming away with a 42-7 victory. It was the first matchup as MAC opponents with Roosevelt leaving the Suburban League and joining the MAC this season. The Rockets were able to pull away late and take home the 41-24 win.
Streetsboro would receive the ball and proceed on a 11-play, 80-yard drive that chewed up over five minutes of the 1st quarter clock. It was a ground and pound drive with 10 of the 11 plays coming via the rush, capped off by a Colton Cox 24-yard score. Logan Sadowksi hit the PAT for a 7-0 Rockets lead.
Roosevelt faced a 3rd and 12 following a fumble on their first possession, but a big 14-yard from from Kingston Bryant converted a big 1st down. They moved into Rockets territory before a huge Kyle Giacomo sack of Bryant for a 19-yard loss would force a punt.
The Rough Riders defense would hold strong on the Rockets next drive forcing an incomplete pass on 4th down turning the ball back over to Roosevelt at their 30-yard line. From there it was one play as Bryant would hit Zachary Coleman on a swing pass that he took 70-yards down the sideline to the house for the touchdown. The Roberts PAT tied it up at 7-7 early in the 2nd quarter.
The Rockets would respond with another five minute drive going 81 yards in 11 plays, all via the run. It was once again capped off with a Cox rushing touchdown, this time from 11 yards out. Sadowski converted another PAT for a 14-7 Rockets lead with 5:42 tom play in the half.

With only 2:41 left in the first half, the teams were far from done scoring. The Bryan/Coleman tandem would strike big again on a 73-yard scoring play for Roosevelt to answer the Fincham score. Roberts PAT cut the deficit to 21-14 with 1:41 to go in the half.
On their last possession before the half, Streetsboro would get three straight Fincham runs of 9, 10 and 16 yards to help set them up for a field goal attempt with 3 seconds to play. Logan Sadowski would nail the 26-yard attempt and the Rockets carried a 24-14 lead into the break.

The Rough Riders offense picked up some steam on their next drive as they went 80-yards with 53 of them coming via Makhi Jones on the ground. From the 11-yard line, Bryant attempted what appeared to be a forwards pass that fell incomplete on the ground and was scooped up by the Rough Riders and run into the end zone. It was a confusing play that the referees determined a backwards pass and fumble returned by Roosevelt for a touchdown. The PAT pulled the Rough Riders withing six at 27-21.
They would carry the momentum to the defensive side of the ball holding the Rockets to a three and out punt. From the Streetsboro 23-yard line they would march the ball all the way down to the 1-yard line before the end of the 3rd quarter with the help of a 39-yard yard pass connection from Bryant to Sevyn Jones. When the 4th quarter began a high snap went over Makhi Jones head and was recovered by Jones at the 17-yard line bringing up 3rd and goal. After a Bryant 4-yard run, Isan Roberts would convert a 30-yard field goal to make it a 27-24 game early in the 4th.

They would turn that big play into another score as Cox hit Kyle Giacomo on a wide open 37-yard scoring strike with just over three minutes to play. Sadowski would convert his 5th PAT for a 41-24 lead and the icing on the cake for Streetsboro.
