Falcons Fly Past Red Devils 10-0 in District Semifinal Action

Brimfield, OH- While the final score, and the fact that it was a 5-inning game, may not show it, the District Semifinal game between Portage County foes Field and Crestwood was scoreless headed to the bottom of the 3rd. It was then that the Falcon bats came alive, as they batted around and plated 6 runs.

That was more than enough support for star Junior Adrianna Berry, who struck out 7 while allowing only 1 hit over her 5 innings in the circle. Leading the way on the offensive side for the Falcons were Lilli Sutkowy, who went 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Bri Homan had a huge 2-run 2B in the 6-run 3rd inning. Juliana Baker and Ryann Huddleston added 2 hits and two runs scored and an RBI apiece.

Entering the bottom of the 5th leading 7-0, the Falcons needed 3 runs to get to the 10-run rule to end the game. Senior Sophie Roberts stepped to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd and sent a sharp grounder to short. An errant throw allowed both runners to come around and Roberts to advance to 2nd. Roberts didn’t stop there, making her way to third and sliding in safely as the throw across the diamond got away down the left field line, as Roberts regained her feet after the slide into third and scampered home to end the game.

The Falcons move on to face the Streetsboro Rockets on Thursday in the District Championship at Massillon. The Red Devils end the year with a 7-12 record
