Mogadore beats Lake Center Christian 7-0 behind 5-run 6th and arm of Christy to advance to D6 District Final
MOGADORE, OH- A pair of Portage Trail Conference members met on Monday evening at Lions Park in Mogadore for an OHSAA Division 6 District Semifinal. #21 seed Lake Center Christian came into Mogadore after a 12-6 Sectional Final win over East Palestine while the #1 seed Mogadore Wildcats shutout #28 Brooklyn 10-0. These two teams were very familiar with each other being conference foes who met twice in the regular season with the Wildcats taking both matchups. They would take this one 7-0 behind a big 6th inning and the arm of Addie Christy.
Christy allowed a one out single to Lilly Kane in the first inning but nothing more as she struck out a pair in the top of the 1st. The Wildcats would go quietly on three fly ball outs in the bottom half. We were scoreless after one.
It was a dominant top of the 2nd for Christy as she struck out the side on 11 pitches.

Mogadore would again go quietly in the 2nd against Lake Center starter Kaya Zook. Still scoreless after two innings.
Lake Center would get another one out baserunner in the top of the 3rd after Maddie Slider reached base on a Christy error. The inning ended after a pair of ground ball outs. Zook shut down the Wildcats again in the bottom half as she faced the minimum through three innings.

The Tigers threatened in the top of the 4th after singles by Nora Sobitz and Shelby McCartney put runners at first and second with one out. Christy was able to thwart the scoring opportunity for the Tigers with a strikeout and ground out to end the inning. Mogadore would finally break through in the bottom of the 4th. Jayden Miller drew a one out walk and advanced to second on a stolen base. After a Christy pop out, Lily Hotchkiss dropped a single into centerfield scoring Miller for the first run of the game. Mogadore led 1-0 after four.

Lake Center looked to answer back in the top of the 5th. They put a pair on with back to back singles with two outs, but Christy recorded a huge strikeout to end the threat. The Wildcats would add another in the bottom half. Autumn Betts reached on an error. Peyton Walker would then single with one out putting two on. After a Gracie Funk line out to first, Rylee Clark sent a single into left scoring run number two and giving Mogadore a 2-0 lead after five.

Christy would allow a leadoff single to Zook in the 6th but retire the next three to keep the shutout intact. The Wildcats would then blow things open in the bottom half. Christy led off the inning with a triple into the right centerfield gap. A walk to Hotchkiss and an intentional walk to MJ Shellenbarger loaded the bases with no outs. Betts then smacked one into the right centerfield gap. It would get caught under the fence for a ground rule double scoring a pair of runs.

Tali Bartholomew then drew a walk to reload the bases with no outs. Shellenbarger would score on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Gracie Funk laid down a bunt single scoring Bartholomew.

They would add one more on a Clark sacrifice fly scoring Bartholomew. The big 5-run 6th gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead after six.
Lake Center would get a two out single in the top of the 7th but Christy slammed the door for the complete game shutout, 7-0.
Christy went the distance allowing 7 hits with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Betts and Clark each drove in a pair of runs.
Mogadore advances to the Division 6 District Final vs #10 seed McDonald on Wednesday in Leavittsburg.
