Newton Falls runs past Garfield 80-46
GARRETTSVILLE, OH- It was a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Tier matchup in Garrettsville Tuesday night as the Garfield G-MEN hosted the Newton Falls Tigers. It was the 2nd meeting of the season for the two squads with the Tigers taking the first one at home 75-63. The Tigers would score early and often in this one putting up 33 first quarter points as they routed Garfield 80-46.
Newton Falls opened the game with back to back three’s from Mason Dillon and Leland Vargo to take a quick 6-0 lead and force a Garfield timeout. Garfield would get on the board with a runner by Nate Grabowski as they trailed 7-2. The Tigers opened up a 13-4 lead including an and-one finish by Phil Davis before the G-MEN scored six straight capped off by a Mac Haney score to make it a 13-10 game.

Newton Falls would close the quarter on a 20-3 run to open up a 33-13 lead after one.
The Tigers came out hot once again to begin the 2nd as they scored the first 8 points making it a 28-3 run going back to the 1st quarter before Brandon Bogucki hit a three for Garfield. The Tigers led 41-16.

Garfield would only manage to put up another 13 point quarter and continued to have a hard dealing with the Tigers offense and full court pressure. Newton Falls took a 62-26 lead at the break.

The G-MEN would outscore the Tigers 10-8 in the 3rd but still trailed 70-36 after three.
After a Phil Davis three started the 4th quarter, Collin McGranahan scored five straight points for Garfield making it a 73-41 game.

It was an even 4th quarter as both teams emptied the benches getting some younger player some varsity playing time. The Tigers would take home the 80-46 win.
Devin Bates led the G-MEN with 14 points while Collin McGranahan chipped in with 10 points.
Phil Davis was outstanding for the Tigers scoring 28 points, 24 in the first half.
The G-MEN will try to put this one in the review mirror as the head to Crestview on Thursday.
Before the game Garfield inducted the 2026 Hall of Fame Class - Evie Svonavec, Vinny Sisson, girls basketball coach Aaron Gilbert and football coach Mike Moser.
