Roosevelt tops Crestwood 46-30 as Foreman picks up win #200

MANTUA, OH- Monday night in Mantua it was a matchup of to of the better teams in the county as the Crestwood Red Devils hosted the Roosevelt Rough Riders. It was a big game for both teams as Crestwood welcomed back key player Becca Brady from her leg injury and Roosevelt coach Craig Foreman was looking for coaching win #200. Christmas would come early for Foreman and the Rough Riders as they took down Crestwood 46-30.

Crestwood would get off to a good start jumping out to a 7-2 lead following a Liv Martini drive and score.

Mahlia Friedman would score the final four points of the quarter following a timeout and a challenge from coach Foreman to right the ship. Crestwood led 7-6 after one.

The Rough Riders more than accepted that challenge in the 2nd. After a Claire Vandamme free throw split and a bucket by Crestwood’s Katrina Richards, Roosevelt would go on a 13-0 run with contributions from five different players to take a 20-9 lead.

Becca Brady would score her first points of the season on a three ball for Crestwood to stop the run. Roosevelt would score the final four points of the half taking a 24-12 lead into the break.

It was a low scoring uneventful 3rd quarter as Crestwood outscored the Rough Riders 5-4. Roosevelt would lead 28-17 after three.

The Rough Riders would start fast in the 4th as Grace Shoenberger opened it with a three followed by an and-one conversion by Friedman to put them up 34-17.

Following a pair of Red Devils free throws, Audrey Haines would score back to back buckets giving Roosevelt a 19 point lead at 38-19.

Crestwood wasn’t ready to concede as they went on a 9-0 run of triples with Mia Davis starting it off and Brady finishing it with a pair of her own to cut the deficit to 38-28. After each team traded baskets, time was no longer on Crestwood’s side as they were forced to foul. Roosevelt converted 6/6 free throws to close this one out and take the 46-30 victory.

Rough Riders Coach Craig Foreman earned his 200th win and reflected on a special message from his mother before she passed away earlier this year.

“I have to say too my mother passed away this year and when she was on her death bed she kept bringing up…200 wins are coming to you…200 wins are coming to you,” said Foreman. “I’ve kind of been waiting on this for her so I know she’s smiling down happy so it’s another thing I’m really proud about.”

Claire Vandamme led the charge for Roosevelt with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks. Mahlia Friedman chipped in with 11 points.

Becca Brady led the Red Devils in her return with 9 points.

Roosevelt will look to keep things rolling on Friday when they head to Ravenna for a matchup with the rival Ravens. Crestwood will look to bounce back on Saturday when the host Aurora.
