Streetsboro takes care of business in 48-30 Division IV Sectional Final win over Orange

STREETSBORO, OH- It was an opening round Division 4 OHSAA Girls Basketball Sectional Final in Streetsboro on Thursday evening as the #9 seed Lady Rockets hosted the #31 seed Orange Lions. The Rockets were looking to bounce back from a regular season ending loss to Brecksville-Broadview Heights, but would have to do so without the services of talented freshman Ma’Ryah McIntosh who was out with a leg injury. The Rockets would overcome a slow start and early turnovers to earn a 48-30 win paced by a balanced scoring attack.

The Rockets would get off to a sluggish start in this one. Ava Bodovetz would get them on the board with a rebound and putback as they would score the first eight points of the game to jump out to an 8-0 lead despite several turnovers on offense.

Courtney Norton got the Lions on the board late in the quarter before an Ava Scisciani bucket for the Rockets rounded out the scoring as Streetsboro led 10-2 after one.

Orange would get a little momentum going scoring four of the first six points of the 2nd quarter pulling to within six points at 12-6. Following a timeout by Rockets coach Carl Singer, Streetsboro came out looking like a different team. Olivia Johnson-Wilson rolled off six straight points to get things rolling and open an 18-6 lead.

The Rockets would go on to score ten more straight points capped off by a McKenzie Montgomery three ball.

The Rockets continued their scoring run to start the 3rd opening on a 9-0 run sparked by a nice Olivia Johnson-Wilson cut inside for the rebound and score as well as an Ava Bodovetz three ball.

Streetsboro would take a 41-12 lead into the final quarter.

Coach Singer would empty the bench in the 4th getting some of his younger players some postseason playing time. Orange would outscore Streetsboro 18-7 led by Osterman who scored 16 of the 18. Streetsboro would take the win 48-30 to move on to Districts.

Olivia Johnson-Wilson led the way for the Rockets with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals. Ava Bodovetz and Ava Scisciani each chipped in with 7 points. Isla Osterman had a nice game for the Lions with 20 points.

The Rockets will host MAC rival Cloverleaf to open Districts on Tuesday 2/24 at 7:00 PM. The two teams split the season series with each team winning on their home floor.
