Position outlook:
Infield: 3B will be anchored by returning (MAC HM) Sr. Sam Confer. Sam is a 3-year starter for us that will also see time on the mound. Sam plays a good 3B, has a strong arm and will hit in the middle of our lineup this spring (.307 2 HR and 21 RBI). Our middle infield will return (MAC 2nd) senior Nick Cultrona. Nick had a very good season for us last year at 2B and will return there. We are hoping for even bigger things from him this year as he will move up in our lineup (.343 24 H 19 R and 14 SB). At SS, we will see a new face there due to graduation and Mount Union gaining back to back (MAC POY & DIV 1st team All State) Grady Eader. A good spring battle for that spot is happening as we speak. Freshman Mason Fulst, Sophomore Tyler Stelzer, Soph Caden Corbett and Jr. Dawson Cook are all seeing time there right now. At 1B, The loss of (MAC 1st & NE All District) Drexel McAmis who is at Ashland University this year playing football will result in another new face for the Falcons. Currently, Sr. Joey Dilworth, Soph Tyler Stelzer, Sr. Caden Kolesar and Jr. Cade Little are seeing time.
Outfield: Returning in the OF this year is Sr. (Bryant Stratton Comit) Caden Kolesar. Caden is a 4 year starter for us. He was (MAC 1st) for the third season in a row last season. Caden was also an NE DIV all district player last spring. Caden is an exceptional ball player (.450 36 H 14 2B 25 RBI 40 R and 9 SB). He loves the game and loves to work. He has really worked hard in the off season in the weight room. This kid can flat our swing it! In LF we return (MAC 2nd) Sr. Joey Conroy. Joey had a great season for us last year as well (.378 31 H .556 OBP 18 RBI 44 R and 19 SB). Soph Alex Williams, Freshman Paxson Silveus, Jr. Tristan Reuting and Jr. Jack Wagner are fighting for time as well.
Catcher: At Catcher we will return Sr. Kole Siedler (MAC 2nd). Kole (Hocking College Commit) caught a lot of innings for us last season. He threw out 9 runners and caught an amazing 164.1 innings for us. We expect him to anchor our infield and be one of our bigger bats this season (.289 22 H and 19 RBI). Kole has a strong arm as well as receives and blocks well also. Soph Tyler Stelzer could relieve Kole at times as well. Tyler is a good looking young player for us! Jr. Cade LIttle is also catching some for us. He is coming off of shoulder surgery so we are cautious with him getting back to throwing 100%.
Pitching staff: Our Pitching staff graduated 126 innings off of last years squad. With that, Malone University gained (MAC 1st & DIV 2nd All State) Landon Homan as well as several other key arms. This season we are looking forward to the challenge of some other guys step up. Soph James Roberts (7 IP 1-0) has been leading the way for us so far. James has a lot of potential and has been working extremely hard in the off season. We will also be looking for Sam Confer to step up and take a bigger role (14.1 IP 3-1). Sam is a big strong kid we are hoping takes a bunch of our innings. Sr Joey Conroy (14 IP 1-1) and Caden Kolesar (10.1 IP 2-0 2 SV) also spent time on the bump last season. We are looking forward to all of those young men taking more innings this coming season. Tyler Stelzer, Alex Williams, Joey Dilworth, Dawson Cook, Caden Corbett, Kole Siedler and Nick Cultrona could also look to help eat up innings this spring.
Season outlook / expectations: “We have a good senior class that has played a lot of HS baseball. We will need to lean on them as we will have a lot of guys in new spots this spring. We were hit hard by graduation at the end of last season. Losing over 120 innings from last year's team as well as a tremendous amount of talent will be hard to replace,” said Peterson. “In addition, the league will be very good! Teams in the MAC are returning some really good ball players. Nonetheless, we are very excited about the upcoming season. We have a good group of upperclassmen and are very intrigued by our young players. Our conference should be very tough with the players each squad has coming back.”
