Ravenna outlasts Field 47-46 in key MAC battle

BRIMFIELD, OH- It was a Portage County and Metro Athletic Conference showdown in Brimfield on Wednesday evening as the Field Falcons welcomed in the Ravenna Ravens. Both teams came in a bit shorthanded looking for a win to carry some momentum into the 2nd half of the regular season. This one would come down to the wire as Ravenna prevailed 47-46.

Ravenna would get off to an 8-3 lead early following a step back three ball from leading scorer CJ Ross.

Brian Fox would answer with a three for Field before Blake Cutting converted and and-one opportunity for the Ravens to make it an 11-6 game. After a Paxson Silveus three for the Falcons, Ross would thrown down a big dunk off the fastbreak to get the Ravens crowd stirred up.

Cutting would get another score inside to end the 1st with Ravenna leading 15-9.

After a Ross score to open the 2nd, Field would outscore the Ravena 7-4 over the next few minutes to cut the deficit to 21-18. Ross would then score four straight pushing the lead back to 7 before Mason Fulst hit a corner three followed by a free throw split as they trailed 25-22.

Ross would close out the half with a nice drive and dish off to Ethan McKamey for the layup at the 2nd quarter buzzer giving the Ravens a 27-22 lead at the break.

Ross had a big first half with 19 points for the Ravens.

Landscaping- mowing, trimming, flower beds, gravel, mulch, leaf blowing, removal of old landscaping and planting of new landscaping, Hardscaping. Excavating- trenching, downspouts, all around excavating.

Ravenna would get off to a quick 3rd quarter start after baskets by Ross and Ladarion Askew put them up 31-22. Field would answer back with a 10-0 run with Silveus and Fulst each scoring 5 points giving Field a 32-31 lead. The lead would change hands on the next few possessions before a Jackson Berlin bucket put the Falcons up 36-33. After a Sean Jordan three for Ravenna tied it up, Fulst would hit a three at the 3rd quarter buzzer giving Field a 39-36 lead after three.

The Ravens would regain the lead early to open the 4th after an Askew layup and a Ziare Sanders banked in three putting them up 41-39. Fulst then came up with a big play scoring on a layup with the foul and converting the and-one opportunity for a 42-41 lead.

After a pair of free throw misses by Field, Ross would score a tough basket inside for his only points of the 4th putting Ravenna back up 43-42.

Field would get a score and a free throw split from Silveus to go up 45-43 before the biggest shot of the game from Sean Jordan came in the way of a corner three to give Ravenna a 46-45 lead with under tow minutes to play.

The Falcons would draw a foul on the other end, but Sam Confer was only able to split the pair tying the game at 46-46. Ravenna would get the last possession to go for the win. After taking the clock all the way down, Jordan was fouled on a three point attempt with 1.5 seconds to play. He would make only the middle of the three free throws as the last one went off the rim and off of a Falcons player out of bounds with 0.8 seconds to play. The Ravens would inbound and time expired as they escaped with the 47-46 win.

Mason Fulst led the Falcons with 22 points.

The Ravens win their 3rd straight moving to 7-4 on the season. They will travel to Willoughby South on 1/10 while the Falcons look to bounce back at home vs Akron North.
