Waterloo withstands Bombers big 4th quarter comeback hanging on for the 52-51 win
WINDHAM, OH- It was a Portage County non-conference matchup at Marty Hill Court on Saturday afternoon as the Windham Bombers hosted the Waterloo Vikings. The Bombers were looking to snap a four game losing skid while the Vikings came in losers of three straight. After leading throughout most of the game the Vikings were able to hold off a late comeback by the Bombers and hang on for a 52-51 win.
Windham would take an early 6-4 lead in this one following a Matthew Kolaczek layup. This would end up being their only lead of the game.

Waterloo would close the quarter on an 11-1 run following three straight triples from Matthew Wolfe, Trevor Flarida and Keyshawn King to close the 1st. They would lead 15-7 after one.

The two teams began the 2nd by exchanging buckets before Flarida knocked down a three ball putting the Vikings up 20-9.

Haiden Bryan and Mason Biltz would follow Flarida with threes of their own as an 11-0 run gave Waterloo a 26-9 lead. Dejuan Ramsey stopped the run with a score for Windham. Each team would get another bucket before the half as the Vikings took a 28-13 lead into the break.

After an exchange of baskets on each end, the Bombers would go on an 8-0 run led by Kolaczek and Ramsey to cut the Vikings lead to 30-23. Trevor Flarida would stop the run with an and-one score and foul conversion to push the lead back to double digits at 33-23.

A Kolaczek score inside followed by a Ramsey three and free throw split cut the deficit to 33-28 for Windham. This time it was Isaac Hall with an and-one conversion to stop the run and put Waterloo back up 36-28.

On the next possession it was Flarida with another score and foul followed by a King layup to end the quarter with the Vikings leading 40-28.
It was a back and forth first few minutes of scoring for both squads. Waterloo held a 49-37 lead following a Bryan and-one conversion during which he was called for a taunting technical foul. Kolaczek split the technical free throws, but this moment seemed to light a fire under the Bombers who trailed 49-38 with under four minutes to play. Following a pair of free throws from Flarida and Ramsey, Kolaczek converted an and-one opportunity for Windham cutting the Vikings lead to 51-43. After a free throw split from Keegan Kiser and a pair of free throws from Gavin Kiser, it was Gavin hitting a huge three ball bringing the Bombers within two at 51-49 with under 40 seconds to play.

The Bombers were forced to foul Flarida who split the pair of free throws making it a 51-48 game. At the other end it was Kolaczek once again scoring inside with the foul and a chance to tie the game. He was unable to convert the free throw keeping it a one point game.

The Bombers would get a chance to win it with the last possession, but an Ethan Thornton jumper hit off the glass and rim and a Kolaczek put back attempt was off the mark as time expired. Waterloo escaped with the 52-51 win.
Trevor Flarida led the way for the Vikings with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Keyshawn King chipped in with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
Matt Kolacek was solid for the Bombers with 23 points and 9 rebounds.
Waterloo will look for two straight on 1/6 when the visit Western Reserve while the Bombers try to bounce back on 1/6 at St. John.
