Roosevelt outlasts Ravenna 54-48 in the day of rivalry games nightcap
RAVENNA, OH- The nightcap of the rivalry day of basketball at James L. Coll Gymnasium was the varsity boys matchup between the Ravens and Roosevelt Rough Riders. The Ravens were trying to avoid a four game sweep by Roosevelt for the day. In the end the Rough Riders were too much for Ravenna as they took home the 54-48 win.
Roosevelt would get off to a quick start in this one jumping out to a 10-2 lead following back to back buckets from EJ Churn and a layup by Tyler Ellington.

Ravenna would cut it to 10-6 following buckets by CJ Ross and Ladarion Askew before Jaiden Portis converted an and-one and then ended the quarter with a fastbreak layup to give Roosevelt a 15-8 lead after one.

John Estep hit a three for Roosevelt to open the 2nd quarter pushing the lead to 18-8. Ravenna would cut it to three after a Ross three made it a 20-15 game. It was pretty much a back and forth scoring affair the rest of the half as Roosevelt took a 29-22 lead into the break.

A pair of free throw splits began the 2nd half before a Mark Miller three for Ravenna pulled them within four at 30-26. After a Cyler Foreman basket for the Rough Riders, Miller was fouled on a three point attempt and hit 2/3 keeping the deficit at four. Following a Roosevelt bucket, Ross would score back to back buckets, the last of which was a thunderous dunk to cut it to a 34-32 Roosevelt lead.

The Rough Riders scored six of the final eight points of the 3rd to take a 40-34 lead into the final quarter including Gavin Peeps first points of the game in his return from an ankle injury.

Ross would come out on fire for Ravenna to start the 3rd with five straight to make it a one point game at 40-39. The teams exchanged baskets before Peeps drove the baseline and threw down a dunk of his own that sparked a 7-0 run polished off by and EJ Churn three and score inside to put the Rough Riders up 49-41.

CJ Ross helped keep the game close late but the Ravens ran out of time as Roosevelt took the 54-48 win.
EJ Churn led the Rought Riders with 14 points and 7 rebounds as the only player in double figures. Jaiden Portis chipped in with 9 points and Gavin Peeps had 6 points and 9 rebounds in his return from injury giving the team a 2nd half spark.
CJ Ross finished with 28 points and 17 rebounds for Ravenna.
The Rough Riders are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Streetsboro to face the Rockets. Ravenna will look to bounce back that same night when they host Crestwood.
