Rovers Roll Past Vikings 63-29 in Portage County Tilt

Atwater, OH- The Rootstown Rovers made the trek to Atwater to take on the Waterloo Vikings Tuesday evening. The Rovers, coming off back-to-back losses at the hands of Chagrin Falls and Berkshire, came out of the gates on a mission. Coach Joe Siciliano’s squad built an 11-2 lead in the games first 4 minutes of action and didn’t let up.

The 1st quarter ended on a buzzer beating 3-pointer off the hand of Senior Guard Ethan White. That triple, his second in the quarter, extended the Rover advantage to 21-4 after the first 8 minutes of play. The 2nd quarter featured much of the same as the visitors built their lead to a 39-13 advantage. At the half, they were led in scoring by White with 10, while Blake Mullaly added 9 and Dean Abdlrasul chipped in with 8 off the bench.

That trio built the lead even more after the break, leading to a running clock situation and a chance for Coach Siciliano to empty the bench en route to the 63-29 victory. On the evening, White was the game’s leading scorer with 16, Abdlrasul was right behind him with 15 while Mullaly chipped in 11 to round out the double-digit scorers for the Rovers. The Vikings were led in the scorebook by Isaac Hall with 9. The victory pulls the Rovers to 4-3 on the year while the loss drops the Vikings to 3-6. The Vikings travel to Campbell Memorial next Tuesday while the Rovers return to action on Saturday when they welcome 6-0 Southeast to the Rover Dome.
