Southeast’s Special Season Ends with 52-36 Loss to Cardinal Mooney

Palmyra, OH- The Southeast Pirates hosted the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals on Saturday afternoon in a D5 Sectional Final showdown. Mooney entered the afternoon with an 11-11 record, while the Pirates, earning a share of the MVAC crown for the first time in over a decade, entered with an 18-4 record. As any fan knows, once the ball is put in play, records get thrown out the window.

In the first stanza, it was a back-and-forth battle, like a heavyweight boxing match. Both teams were feeling out the other as they got into their games. After one, the scoreboard was knotted at 8. By the time the teams headed to the locker rooms, the Cardinals had an 18-13 lead, it was a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the afternoon.

The visitors extended their lead to double digits by the 3rd quarter’s end, 30-20, before pulling away in the opening minutes of the 4th, leading to both coaches emptying their benches in the final two minutes of the game. The leading scorer for the game was the Cardinals’ Dante Turner with 16 points. The Pirates were led by Cohen Richardson with 11.
