Streetsboro grinds out 37-34 win over Bay in Division 4 Sectional Final

STREETSBORO, OH- It was a battle of the Rockets in Streetsboro on Friday night as the Streetsboro Rockets hosted the Bay Rockets in a Division IV Sectional Final matchup. Streetsboro came in winners of four of the last six to close the regular season while Bay wrapped theirs up on a seven game losing streak. Streetsboro was able to grind out a low scoring 37-34 win to advance to Districts.

Streetsboro and Bay each exchanged buckets by Janiere Cooke and Emmit Naughton to open the game before PJ Robinson splashed a three ball for Streetsboro putting them up 5-2.

Cook would score a tough bucket inside making it a 7-3 game before Bay outscored Streetsboro 7-4 the rest of the opening quarter with Streetsboro holding an 11-10 lead after one.

Streetsboro would come out strong to open the 2nd on a 6-0 run with buckets by Ethan Laryea, Robinson and Cook to put them up 17-10.

Bay would then would get back to back three’s from Naughton and Ryan Miller cutting the deficit to 17-16 before Braden Hodge hit a big three of his own.

The first half scoring would conclude with another three for Bay as Streetsboro held a 20-19 lead at the break.

Landscaping- mowing, trimming, flower beds, gravel, mulch, leaf blowing, removal of old landscaping and planting of new landscaping, Hardscaping. Excavating- trenching, downspouts, all around excavating.

Bay would come out with a 5-0 run in the 3rd as they took a 24-20 lead. Streetsboro struggled to score in the 3rd as Bay did a good job of taking away dribble penetration and double/triple teaming anytime the ball was thrown inside. Streetsboro finally got on the board late in the quarter on a jumper from Dallas Morris. All in all only seven total points scored in the quarter as Bay held a 24-22 lead.

PJ Robinson started the 4th by coming up with a big steal and knocking down a pair of free throws to tie it up 24-24. Braden Hodge would hit a three on the next possession for a 27-24 Streetsboro lead.

Bay would grab the lead back after a three ball and a score by Miller to put them up 29-28. PJ Robinson then splashed his 2nd three of the game at a big moment giving Streetsboro a 31-29 lead.

The Rockets would play some big time defense down the stretch while holding their lead. After six free throws had them up 36-31 with under a minute to play, Kelan Rose hit a three for Bay making it a 36-34 game. They would foul Laryea who split the pair making it a three point game. Bay had an opportunity to tie it up but could not get a shot off as Streetsboro held on for the 37-34 win.

PJ Robinson led the scoring with 12 points. Braden Hodge chipped in with 7. Janiere Cook had 6 points and 5 rebounds while Ethan Laryea posted 5 points and 6 rebounds.

Ryan Miller led Bay with 10 points.

Streetsboro advances to take on West Branch in the District semifinal on Tuesday (3/3).
