Vikings Topple Trojans 49-13 in MVAC Showdown

Sebring, OH- The Waterloo Vikings boys basketball team kicked off their holiday break with a 49-13 MVAC road victory against the Sebring Trojans. While the final score was quite one-sided, the first 8 minutes was everything but. After the opening frame, the scoreboard read 6-5, tilted in favor of the Vikings. The Trojans came out with a zone defense that was giving the visitors fits through the opening stanza.

The Vikings found an answer to the zone in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Trojans 18-3 in the frame. As was the case for much of the remaining three quarters after a slow start, the Vikings used a balanced attack to build their advantage. At the break, they had three players tied with the high mark of 5, Juniors Keyshawn King, Matthew Wolfe and Gabe Kachner.

The Vikings came out of the halftime break with much of the same success, building a comfortable lead after 3 quarters of 38-13. Senior Isaac Hall had 3 of those 14 points in the quarter, contributing to his total of 7. With a commanding lead, Coach Gavin English was able to empty his bench with about 5 and a half minutes left in the contest. Each of the 10 Vikings who played scored at least one point, with Keyshawn King leading all scorers with 9.

The victory moves the Vikings to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the MVAC while the loss drops the Trojans to 0-7 and 0-5 in the MVAC. The Vikings return to action Tuesday when they welcome the Rootstown Rovers to the ‘Loo.
