Southeast takes down Garfield 60-52
PALMYRA, OH- On Monday night the Southeast Lady Pirates welcomed in the Garfield Lady G-MEN for round two of their regular season matchups. Garfield took the first matchup on their home floor 53-46 on 12/12. The Pirates would get payback tonight with a solid 60-52 win over the G-MEN.
Garfield would start off the scoring with a Mandy Cardinal three. A few moments later Kylene Mcmayon would hit another three for the G-MEN putting them up 6-4. The Pirates would then go on a 9-0 run that began with a Bailey Morris three and ended with a Jenna Canale score to take a 13-6 lead.

After a Cardinal basket and Charlee Hill three for Garfield, Bailey Morris nailed her 2nd three of the quarter to take a 16-11 lead.

Riley Grace would answer back for the G-MEN with a successful and-one conversion off of a rebound to pull Garfield within two at 16-14.

Southeast would close the quarter scoring five of the final seven points to take a 23-18 lead after one.
Canale started the 2nd quarter off with a bucket for Southeast. A Mcmayon free throw split and a Leah Hill rebound and putback inside brought the G-MEN within four at 25-21. Following another Canale score and an and-one conversion by Cardinal, the Pirates would go on an 11-0 run that included another three from Morris as they opened up a 41-24 lead.

After a Leah Hill score for Garfield the Pirates took a 41-26 lead into the break.
Mandy Cardinal would get the G-MEN going to open the 2nd half with back to back buckets cutting the Pirates lead to 41-30.

It was a back and forth 3rd quarter. Payton Soltis would hit a late three for Garfield cutting the deficit to single digits at 47-38 before Morris ended the quarter scoring with her fourth three ball of the game to put Southeast up 50-38 after three.

Following a Canale score to open the 4th, Cardinal scored back to back buckets to make it a ten point game at 52-42.

The teams exchanged baskets the next two possessions keeping it a ten point game. After a Lylia Lavigna free throw split for the Pirates, Garfield would make things interesting late as back to back three’s from Soltis and Cardinal cut the deficit to 57-52 with under a minute to play. Canale was able to convert three of four free throws to put away the 60-52 win for the Pirates.
Jenna Canale led the Pirates with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Bailey Morris chipped in with 16 points and 4 three’s. Bella Mowery was also in double figures with 10 points.
Mandy Cardinal had another nice game for Garfield with 23 points.
Southeast looks to keep it rolling when they head to Champion on 1/15 while the G-MEN look to bounce back at home vs Liberty.
